Introduction

This is a sweet treat, and definitely enough to share. The salty-sweet combo is very satisfying, and 1 piece is more than enough to quell a craving. This is a sweet treat, and definitely enough to share. The salty-sweet combo is very satisfying, and 1 piece is more than enough to quell a craving.
Number of Servings: 40

Ingredients

    2 sticks unsalted butter
    1 cup brown sugar
    40 saltine crackers
    1.5 cups chocolate chips

Tips

Don't use salted crackers AND salted butter. Only one should be salted--salted butter and unsalted crackers, or unsalted butter and salted crackers.
You can also sprinkle the top with chopped nuts before cooling. Another option is to leave the chocolate off and just enjoy the toffee-like crackers.

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Line a 9"x13" baking pan with aluminum foil or parchment
paper. Line bottom of pan with saltine crackers, side by side.

In a pot, bring butter and brown sugar to a boil. Boil for 3 minutes until caramel in color. Pour mixture over saltines in baking pan and spread caramel over crackers (a cake knife works well for this). Transfer pan to oven and bake for 5-6 minutes until bubbly. Remove from oven. Sprinkle chocolate chips over top and let sit for 2-3 minutes until melted, then spread evenly over crackers. Let cool completely before breaking into squares.
