Introduction
My daughter & I got this idea from a Dora & Diego cookbook, and then we modified it with different veggies etc. but we used our own ideas for the foods. Ingredients
-
1 large tortilla (11 inch used for nutritional info)
1 carrot, cut up for smile
.25 cup cold spaghetti (we used leftovers), for hair
1 cherry tomato, for the nose
.25 cup cucumber slices for eyes & ears
Substitute as you like. My daughter used yogurt for the nose but ultimately didn't eat it. She also had a side of low-salt soy sauce on the side for dipping.
Lettuce and salad dressing can be added and you can roll it up as a wrap if you don't care about the "artistic" nature of this meal.
I put this as vegetarian but you could easily add meat. We did add some turkey for decoration when we made it.
Tips
Great for when you have leftovers or it's too hot to cook. Also a creative way to get your child to eat vegetables. Adults may want to add a salad dressing and roll it up into a wrap.
Directions
No cooking required. Place tortilla on large plate and add veggies to make face. You may want to have a dipping sauce on the side. We used leftover pasta for hair, and added deli turkey to be a hair clip and earrings. Let the kid run the show on this one. It's food and it's art. Fun and healthy.
