Introduction

These are my grandmas very light and cakey sugar cookies. These taste great without frosting and are perfect for curing a sweet tooth. These are my grandmas very light and cakey sugar cookies. These taste great without frosting and are perfect for curing a sweet tooth.

Ingredients

    6 cups flour
    1 tsp baking powder
    1 tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 cup butter, softened
    2 cups sugar
    3 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    1 1/2 cups non-fat sour cream

Tips

Bake cookies for 7 minutes if you want a very light, soft cookie and longer for a crisper-edged cookie.

Directions

Mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, blend together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in eggs, vanilla, and sour cream and stir until combined. Add in the flour mixture and stir until everything comes together in a stiff dough. Divide dough in two and wrap each portion in plastic wrap; chill for at least 3 hours. On a floured surface, roll out each half of the dough to about 1/4-1/8 in thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place on an ungreased baking sheet; repeat with remaining dough. Bake the cookies at 425 degrees F. for 7-11 minutes, until the cookies are set. Remove cookies from pan to cooling racks to cool completely.

    Incredible!
Oh my goodness these taste exactly like the Lofthouse cookies you can buy in the store! Eating just one is hard but it's nice that we can whip these up at home for a treat. The freeze well too. I left out the salt when I made them and they were just fine. - 5/27/14
