Introduction

These are really dense brownies (not for everyday). I just wanted to find out the calories, but then thought this was too good to keep to myself. These are really dense brownies (not for everyday). I just wanted to find out the calories, but then thought this was too good to keep to myself.

Ingredients

1/3 cup Sunflower Oil (or whatever oil you have to hand, you can use melted butter if you prefer)
    1 cup Caster sugar
    1/4 cup Flour
    1/4 cup Cocoa powder
    1 Egg
    pinch of salt
pinch of baking powder (I think you could probably leave this out)
    1 tsp vanilla (optional)
1 tsp instant coffee dissolved in hot water (optional)

Tips

Do line the tin (with baking parchment) or these WILL stick.
If you try to cut them before they have cooled they will break up and you will find that you get batter on the knife.

Directions

Preheat the oven to 150c (I have a fan oven)
Sieve together the flour, cocoa, salt and baking powder, mix it well and set aside.
In a mixing bowl stir together the oil and sugar (add the vanilla and coffee now if using), lightly beat the egg with a fork and add to the sugar/oil mixture. Beat to combine.
Next stir the dry flour mixture into the wet, mix the batter well and pour into a greased and lined tin (I used a loaf tin to get really thick fudgy brownies)
Place in the oven o cook for thirty minutes, if the top starts to burn cover the tin with foil (they will require all of the cooking time maybe longer in your oven).
Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the tin before cutting into squares.
