Ingredients
-
2 lbs lean ground beef
4 large cans diced tomatoes
1 large bag frozen chopped spinach
1/2 bag frozen diced onions
1/2 bag frozen diced peppers and onions
1/3 cup italian seasonings
2 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
Tips
i like to add a little salt at every step - a little on the onions and peppers, a little on the beef, and then the rest into the sauce as it simmers.
sometimes instead of 2 lbs of beef i use 1 lbs beef and 1 lbs sausage. it's very yummy.
also, sometimes i use 3 cans diced tomatoes, 1 can crushed. it makes it more "sauce-y"
also, the seasonings are just a guestimate. there is a lot of sauce and i use a lot of herbs. bring your own taste buds to the table and use the herbs and spices you want!
Directions
in large skillet add olive oil, diced onions and peppers. cook until just slightly translucent.
add beef and brown with vegetables (vegetables will continue to cook).
once the beef is browned, transfer mixture to large pot and add 4 large cans of diced tomatoes, spinach, salt, herbs and cinnamon. bring to a simmer and let cook on medium-low for 6-8 hours stirring occasionally (about every half hour or so is fine), and adding water occasionally if needed to keep it from getting too thick.
serve over pasta!
yum!
