Introduction

An Indonesian sauce similar to a sweet soy sauce flavored with garlic and/or star anise. Usually sweetened with palm sugar, it's used as a condiment with fish, meat or veggies! Ingredients

    3/4 cup sugar
    1 cup tamari
    2 tablespoons water
    1 tablespoon grated lemon peel
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    1 star anise

Directions

Carmelize the sugar in a medium saucepot.
Gradually add the rest of the ingredients, stirring continually.
Bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
Cool and strain through a cheesecloth.
