This recipe is incredibly unhealthy. The red dye in red velvet cake causes cancer. Here is a healthier recipe, that less than HALF the calories and fat of this one, and uses beets for the red coloring: http://preventcancer.aicr.org/site/News2?p

Hey Spark People! 84g carbs?? This looks fun, but not appropriate for a "healthy" web site. Instead the red velvet cake mix, maybe revise it into a much lower sugar/sodium version and post that one. Thanks! - 2/9/16

It is a fun idea for Valentine's day but not a good idea for my waist with the calories and the high sodium. There is just too much sugar with the frosting, so I am going to look for the sugar free frosting I saw about a year ago in my store and use the sugar free cake mix instead. - 2/9/16

You must be joking with this recipe!!!!! 472 calories for a piece of cake - that is at least 1/3 my daily calorie range, and more than 1/2 my total carb range. - 2/9/16

  • My Grand-daughters would love making the little cakes. I would make my own Cream Cheese frosting using low-fat cream cheese. - 2/9/16
