Directions

Start off by putting the can tomatoes in a soup pot. Add 2 cups of water. Next add the veggies. (carrots, onion, cabbage) I added the broccoli at the end so that it wouldn't get over done. Cook till the carrots are crunchy not over done.
Put the whole can of refried beans in the last cup of water and mix together then add to the soup. Then add the spices and simmer for 15 more minutes.
This soup made 22 cups at 57.7 calories but there are a lot of healthy things in it.

This looks interesting but should not be listed as vegetarian because of the chicken broth. It's also important to specify vegetarian refried beans as many refried beans contain lard. - 4/13/08

I just printed this recipe and can't wait to make it. The baking soda is to cut the acid in tomatoes. I use it to sweeten spaghetti sauce. Sounds really good to me.
I love low cal soup and this one you can have at least 2 cups with no problem. Don't add crackers or bread to your meal

Why would you put baking soda in soup? Is it a replacement for salt? - 3/29/08
