Introduction
This is my Jewish families recipe for Stuffed Cabbage This is my Jewish families recipe for Stuffed CabbageNumber of Servings: 10
Ingredients
-
2 lbs 93% lean ground beef
2 Cabbage Heads
Salt
Pepper
Citric Sour Salt
Sugar or Truvia Baking Blend
1 Cup Onion Whole Chopped
Paprika
Ketchup
Tips
1/2 can of tomato paste (Optional) stirred into the tomato sauce. I use paste because the cabbage can put off a lot of water while cooking and i like my sauce a bit more thicker.
Sweet and sour too taste. You may have to tweak this recipe to your like of how sweet or sour you want your stuffed cabbage
you can find Sour Salt (citric salt) at any jewish store/deli
Directions
Parboil Cabbage. Drain and Separate large leaves put aside.
line bottom of crockpot with a few small leaves, helps it from burning the rolls.
Put meat in mixing boil. Add 4 tablespoons ketchup. 1 cup long grain rice (any kind you like)
Add a little salt and pepper
Add a handful or cold water to meat. Mix thoroughly with your hands.
Shape into 10 balls.
Take cooked Cabbage and place it on a plate. Take a ball of meat place it at the base of the cabbage and roll and wrap into a ball. Place into the crock pot, repeat till you have 10 rolls.
Pour 1 29 ounce can of Tomato Sauce on top of rolls
Pour a 28 ounce can of crushed tomato on top of rolls
Place the cup of chopped onion on top of sauce
4 tablespoons of ketchup on top of all the sauce.
1/2 cup water poured on top of rolls
Sprinkle on Paprika, Sour Salt (citric salt) and Sugar on top of sauce.
I like to line the top of everything so more cabbage cooks with the rolls. Also helps maintain heat too. Lid goes on top of course :)
Turn pot on for 2 hrs on high. Then change to low for 4 hours.
Serving Size: 1 Cabbage Roll
