This recipe is from The Better Homes and Gardens Homemade Bread Cook Book published in 1973. This is my favorite bread cook book. It's out of print now. This recipe makes very light and rich biscuits. I sometimes substitute Half 'n Half for the milk. This will add calories and fat so I only do this for special occasions. Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour (organic)
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon Cream of Tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
2/3 cup milk (1%)
Directions
Stir thoroughly the first five ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs. Make a well in center; Add milk all at once. Stir just till dough sticks together. Knead gently on lightly floured surface (10 - 12 strokes). Roll or pat to 1/2 inch thickness. Dip 2-1/2 inch biscuit cutter in flour; cut dough straight down. Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 450 degrees for 10 - 12 minutes. Makes 12 biscuits.
