Introduction

Old "family" recipe...a sweet treat to be had on special occasions. Old "family" recipe...a sweet treat to be had on special occasions.
Number of Servings: 10

Ingredients

1 tube of canned biscuits (from refrigerated section of store - store brand is fine)
    2 Tbsp powdered sugar
    vegetable oil (canola works great)
    cinnamon (optional)

Directions

Makes 10 doughnuts and 10 doughnut holes.

Heat oil in pan or in electric skillet (or use deep fryer).

Use the bottle cap from a 2-liter soft drink to cut holes in the center of the biscuits.

Fry the cut biscuits in hot oil. Watch them carefully and flip over when one side is golden brown. The holes cook a lot faster than the doughnuts, so watch them.

Remove to a plate covered in paper towels to drain off some of the oil.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar (add cinnamon to the sugar if you like).

    Incredible!
I've been making doughnuts this way for years. You can also shake the doughnuts in a sealed ziplock bag with plain sugar and cinnamon. I haven't tried it with Splenda, but I plan to :) - 10/26/09
