Ingredients

    0.25c cooked toor dal
    1 large tomato, chopped
    0.5tsp crushed black pepper
    1tsp cumin
    0.25tsp asafoetida
    2 pearls garlic
    0.25tsp sambar powder
    1tsp lemon juice
    0.5tsp salt
    1tsp oil
    6c water, divided
    1tbsp cilantro, chopped (optional)

Directions

Pressure cook the dal with 3 cups of hot water. Wait for the pressure cooker to whistle three times. Set aside.

Crush garlic with pepper, cumin and asafoetida.
Heat oil, add this mixture.
Add tomatoes to this and stir until they are cooked.
Add sambar powder and salt. Stir; add a cup of water.
Mash the dal in 2 additional cups of water and add to the boiling mixture.
Remove from heat. Add lemon juice and coriander.
