Introduction

This recipe is adapted from Rachel Ray's Super Sloppy Joes using extra lean ground turkey instead of ground beef or sirloin. This is a family favorite that even my 3 year old will eat. Ingredients

1 tbsp extra light virgin oil
1 lb extra lean ground turkey
    1/4 cup brown sugar
    2 tsp steak seasoning
    1 medium onion
    1 medium red bell pepper
    1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
    1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
    2 cups tomato sauce
    2 tbsp tomato paste

Directions

Heat large skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil and ground turkey to pan and brown. Combine brown sugar and steak seasoning. Add sugar and spice mixture the skillet and combine. Add onion and red peppers. Reduce heat. Add vinegar and worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Cook approx 5 min. Add tomato sauce and paste to pan. Stir to combine. Reduce heat to simmer and cook 5 min longer. I use 1/4 cup of sloppy joe on toasted wheat bun. Garnish with dill pickles. Calorie count does not include buns. Serving size is 1/4 cup and yields about 19 servings.

This is the best sloppy joe recipe. It has so much flavor, you want to eat it slow just to keep the flavor in your mouth. I could eat this every day. Thanks so much for a wonderful meal idea. - 7/10/09
