Introduction

This is an easy, fast version of cabbage rolls using prepared foods from the grocery store: shredded packaged cabbage, frozen diced green peppers, bacon bilts, etc. -- all fast to mix together.
It is especially easy if you have prepared a quantity of ground beef (seasoned with dried onion, garlic and beef soup base) in advance and frozen in 1# packages. I also mince all my left-over celery tops and freeze for use in recipes like this. With just a little planning, this is a fast and easy just-assemble meal.

Ingredients

1 # hamburger, 90% lean, Angus preferred, browned and degreased
    8 T. dried onion
3 T. beef soup base or granules
    1/4 c. garlic, minced (prepared)
1 16 oz. bag of shredded cabbage (or slaw mix)
    3/4 c. minced celery
1/4 c. white long grain rice
1/4 c. green peppers, frozen, diced
8 T. real bacon bits (optional)
    2 12 oz cans V-8 juice

Directions

Makes 6 1-cup servings. Can also be done in a crockpot.
Prepare the hamburger: brown, degrease, and mix well with dried onion, garlic, soup base and pepper.
Mis all ingredients except V-8 in a large Corningware or other oven-proof dish. Add V-8 and enough water to just cover ingredients. Cook, covered with lid, at 350 for about 1.5 hours or until cabbage is soft.
NOTE: if using the prepared frozen seasoned hamburger, prep time is only 10 minutes to assemble.
