Introduction
Got this from a five ingredient slow cooker magazine, but changed the thickening agent. It is cheap, quick to put together, easy and low-cal. Does it get any better? Ingredients
-
1 pound beef round steak, cut into four servings
1 medium onion, sliced
1 can diced tomatoes with basil, oregano, and garlic
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Directions
1. Slice onion and place in bottom of 4 qt crock pot sprayed with nonstick spray.
2. Sprinkle onion with thyme and salt and pepper to your taste.
3. Meanwhile, in a hot skillet sprayed well with nonstick spray, brown the round steak. Lots of people skip this step, but I think it gives the meat more flavor and helps it to stay together nicely (it will be very tender).
4. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low for 6-8 hours.
5. Mix the 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water and add to crock pot. If on low, switch to high and let cook 15 minutes or until sauce is desired thickness.
I serve this with brown rice and broccoli. Delicious!
