Introduction

Basic Ma Po Tofu recipe from "Basic Asian" cookbook. Basic Ma Po Tofu recipe from "Basic Asian" cookbook.
Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    2 Tbsp oil
    2 green onions
    4 cloves garlic
    1 inch ginger root
    2/3 lb of pork
    3 Tbsp black bean sauce
    1 cup of chicken stock
    16 oz Firm Tofu

Directions

Prep:
Peel and grate the ginger.
Slice green onion into rings, discard root portion
Mince the garlic.
Cut tofu into 1/2 inch cubes.

Cooking:
Heat oil in pan. Medium-High heat.
Saute Garlic, Ginger, and Green onions briefly.
Add pork and stir fry until brown and crumbly.
Add bean sauce and stir in.
Add chicken stock and allow to heat.
Add tofu and heat for 5 more minutes.

    Very Good
    Made it vegetarian without the pork (saved a ton of calories as well!) and it was pretty good. Next time will try with pork as well. Thanks for posting the recipe!! - 6/18/10
