Ingredients
-
1 cup egg substitute or 2 med eggs
3/4 cup bread flour
3/4 cup 1% milk
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar (3 tsp)
1 tbsp oil (canola)
Must be cooked in a popover pan, will not come out right otherwise.
Directions
makes 6 popovers
The secret to this recipe is ensuring all your ingredients are at room temperature and more importantly that you preheat your popover pans first! The heat of the pans allows the ingredients to creep up the sides of the pan, and the heat of the oven seals the top of the popover, trapping steam inside, which forces them to pop over the top of the pan.
Make sure your ingredients are at room temperature ie milk and eggs/substitute
Preheat oven to 450 º F
Loosely measure out your flour, into a mixing bowl
Add all the ingredients (room temperature)
mix with hand mixer or food processor, until all ingredients are well mixed. use a spoon to ensure nothing is stuck to the bottom of the bowl.
Put popover pans into oven and preheat for approx 4 mins.
remove popover pans, and spray immediately with non stick spray.
pour mixture into individual popover pan to halfway mark.
place in oven and bake at 450 º F for 15 mins,
reduce heat to 350 º F and bake for a further 10 mins or until lightly brown and done.
Remove from oven, and poke a sharp knife into top to make a slit, and release the steam.
Remove and serve hot, with butter and jam, or your choice of ingredients. I like to serve with curried ground beef, and potatoes. enjoy!
