Ingredients

Ground beef, lean, 8 oz (remove)
    Ground Pork, 16 oz (remove)
Onions, raw, 1 medium (2-1/2" dia) (remove)
    Garlic, 1 clove (remove)
Water, tap, 0.5 cup (8 fl oz) (remove)
    Salt, 1.5 tsp (remove)
    Thyme, ground, 0.5 tsp (remove)
    Sage, ground, 0.25 tsp (remove)
    Pepper, black, 0.25 tsp (remove)
    Cloves, ground, 0.125 tbsp (remove)
Pie crust, frozen, ready-to-bake, 1 crust, single 9" (remove)

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
In a saucepan, combine pork, beef, onion, garlic, water, salt, thyme, sage, black pepper and cloves. Cook over medium heat until mixture boils; stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low and simmer until meat is cooked, about 5 minutes.
Spoon the meat mixture into the pie crust. Place top crust on top of pie and pinch edges to seal. Cut slits in top crust so steam can escape. Cover edges of pie with strips of aluminum foil.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes, remove foil and return to oven. Bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Let cool 10 minutes before slicing.

This is wonderful and a true tortiere just as it is presented. As a traditional Canadian dish, the pork is ground pork butt (have your butcher trim the fat before grinding it). It becomes something entirely different when you substitute different meats :(. - 2/14/11

Great! I made a few changes... I added ground turkey for some of the sausage and beef. Thawed frozen chopped spinach added some color and healthy benefits. Instead of water, I used low sodium, 99% fat free beef broth and flour and simmered to thicken. YUM! - 1/18/09

I use all ground pork then mix it into mashed potatoes and use bells seasoning. Mix all together then add pie crust. Its a holiday favorite of our family - 8/25/19

    Incredible!
Not sure if my Tourtière recipe is original, but I use all pork, no beef and diced or shredded potatoes, celery and different spices (not included in your recipe) in mine. I've used my recipe for 32 years. It is a Quebec, French Canadian recipe where it originated. It is very filling and tasty. - 4/28/17

WOW! This is really good. I used 93% lean turkey instead of pork, a large onion in place of the med. one. I used the prior posters suggestion of chicken broth and added 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire and 1/2 tsp. arrowroot. In the words of my husband..this WILL be made again! =) Thank you for sharing. - 6/16/11

    Incredible!
we add a few ritz crackers to thicken, but also love the option of adding spinach, broth and flour to thicken to reduce the cals and carbs--love tourtiere! - 12/19/10
