Introduction

Peanut sauce is one of my favorite things to eat, usually with tofu, green vegetables (like broccoli, spinach and edamame) and brown rice. Peanut sauce is one of my favorite things to eat, usually with tofu, green vegetables (like broccoli, spinach and edamame) and brown rice.
Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

1/4 cup natural peanut butter (creamy variety)
2 Tbsp tamari soy sauce (use low-sodium variety if you prefer)
1-2 garlic cloves, minced (use a little or a lot)
1/8 tsp grated ginger root (optional)
    1/3 cup warm water

For a spicy sauce, consider adding chili power or sauce, cayenne powder, more garlic and/or ginger, or any of your favorite spices.

Tips

After searching low and high for a good, healthy store-bought one, I gave up and created my own. Adjust spices to your taste preferences--this can be mild or spicy! Either way, it's easy to make and cheaper than store-bought sauces.

Directions

Mince garlic and grate ginger (if using).
Place all ingredients into a small bowl.
Whisk until blended.
Serve over your warmed food. Enjoy!

Cover and refrigerate to keep this for several weeks--may need to be re-stirred or heated after refrigeration.

I have made a similar version for many years but I use some lemon or lime juice instead of some of the water, and I put it in the blender to get it really smooth. Yum! - 1/21/12

Great recipe! It's really good for fresh spring rolls, or even as a salad dressing. I like to add sriracha chili sauce to mine for extra spice. - 8/1/10

I agree Yummy! For those of us with nut allergies this also works well if you replace the peanut butter with soy-nut butter, a staple in my kitchen :) - 1/28/09

I added chili paste with garlic and used powdered peanut butter (PB2) and 1/4 cup water to reconstitute it. Fewer calories, less fat! I also sliced scallions very thinly into this for color and a bit more flavor. - 2/20/13

I really like how easy this recipe was... and tasty. I used grated fresh ginger and instead of all the water I zested a lime and used the juice as well. Since we like hot I added a dash of cayenne and chili paste. Very good and will make again. - 3/25/10

I make a variation of this, but add a touch of LF Creamy French Drsg; a LOT of lemongrass (addicted) and scallions. I also serve it on "zoodles" zucchini noodles instead of pasta. Could live on it! - 5/9/12

My favorite salad dressing/peanut sauce for noodles or chicken: 2 tbsp of PB2, water to thickness preference, soy sauce, red pepper flakes and 2 packets of stevia. I am going to add some ginger to mix it up! - 2/8/13

I liked it, but definitely added some heat with a dash of red cayenne powder and doubled the grated ginger root. I also added a couple cranks from my grinder of East Asian spice mix. Turned out tasty on my chicken and spinach wrap. - 5/13/11

I made this tonight, and loved it! I have tried a couple of other peanut sauce recipes, but this takes the top place! It is quick and easy with ingredients I keep on hand. I did double the recipe and add a 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes. This will go in my favorites! - 7/25/14

Followed the recipe, but turned out super salty for me for some reason. Hopefully will taste better once I add it to some real food! Added a tbsp of brown sugar and some splenda to help that. I'll try to get low sodium soy sauce now that we're out - I'm sure that will help. - 3/20/12

Since we do not have anyone with allergy towards peanuts, my only substitute was to use extra chunky peanut butter sauce and add even more chopped peanuts into the sauce. The water used must be warm to hot and used cautiously. Nice! - 4/20/20
