Introduction

I got this from the Fix It and Forget It Lightly cookbook. It calls for any diet soda. I actually used Diet Dr. Pepper. I used Kraft Original Barbecue Sauce. Finally, I'm not an onion person, so I skipped them--and used minced onion instead. It was ABSOLUTELY delicious! The only hard part is eating JUST ONE SERVING! I can't believe there is diet soda in this--I'd NEVER know. The hard part is eating just one or two! - 6/2/09

I GOT THIS RECIPE FROM A LIGHT AND HEARTY COOKBOOK BEFORE AND I AM GLAD I HAVE 5 KIDS OR I DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO FOR SECONDS. INSTEAD OF BUNS THOUGH I SERVED IT WITH A SIDE OF WHITE RICE AND A SMALL SALAD. WE HAD A COMPLPETE MEAL AND NO-ONE WAS STILL "HUNGRY". - 9/9/09

This is great. I'm not sure why we add the diet soda??? ( I used diet 7 Up since that is all I had.) The longer it is cooked the thicker the sauce will be for those who found it too thin. I used Sweet Baby Ray's Original Barbecue sauce. - 11/27/10

I made this using chicken breasts. It was wonderful. If you didn't tell anyone, you couldn't tell that it wasn't pork. I added dijon mustard, worcestershire sauce, red pepper flakes, garlic & salt. I just kept experimenting until the flavor was just right. My husband & son both ate 2 sandwiches - 2/25/10

This recipe was good and easy to make. It felt like it was missing something to both myself and my partner though. We used Diet Dr Pepper instead. Maybe I need to try a different bbq sauce next time. Def good though! :) - 10/17/11

I was excited to try this, but I didn't like it at ALL. It tasted sugary and the sauce was thin. I grew up on Memphis-style pulled pork and was hoping for a true bbq flavor, but this is not it. - 7/1/11

I saw this recipe on another website. It used root beer to cook meat. Onions are optional. When meat is cooked, drain then shred meat. Then you add BBQ sauce (and any other ingredients to make it your own) and let cook for about 1/2 hour more. This will keep sauce frombeing too thin. Enjoy!!!! - 4/17/11

Wow! Super easy and flavorful. I used regular barbeque sauce (no low sodium) and was pleasantly surprised. Even better warmed up the next day! Great for the whole family and smelled amazing. Thanks! - 8/11/09

You shouldn't drink Diet Soda, much less cook with it. I'll pass on slowly killing myself with chemical beverages. - 3/5/13

OMG! My kids LOVED this! We used regular Dr. Pepper and Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce. IT WAS SOOOO GOOD! I'll be making this again, real soon!! The sauce was thin, so, i think i will not use a whole can of soda next time. - 2/20/12

To avoid the complaint here of thin sauce what you should do is when you take the pork out to shred drain the juices in the crock pot and return to the crock pot and then add your bbq sauce. Cook for about 2 more hours on low and that should do the trick.Good recipe, flavorless if not seasoned though - 1/30/12

I'll be honest, I bought a slow cooker just so I could try this recipe. My boyfriend loves pulled pork sandwiches and I have always been too intimidated to try to make them! This recipe is so delicious and my boyfriend raved about how tasty they were! I will make this recipe again and again! - 2/23/11

My family found this recipe to be ok. Maybe it's the soda and BBQ sauce that I used (I used Coke Zero and regular BBQ sauce because I couldn't find low sodium), but the sauce came out very thin and sweet-tasting. I prefer BBQ to be thicker and more tangy. - 4/2/10

Very good. Ate it on toasted buns with a teeny bit of shredded cheese melted on top and a side of green beans. Didn't have a cup of bbq sauce but a few bottom of bottles, so I used 3 different sauces, and it turned out fantastic! I;m going to put the leftovers in a Stromboli tomorrow! - 8/29/09
