If you're worried about excess liquid or sodium in this recipe try this: 1) instead of cooking chicken in wing sauce, cover in water with a a few tsp of vinegar in crockpot, 2) dump water, shred chicken and add wing sauce or hotsauce+butter or oil to taste. I serve with romaine as a wrap. Delish. - 2/1/10

This is my boyfriends favorite recipe! I shred the chicken and eat it on flour tortillas with lettuce and fat free ranch. Easy to make and really tasty if you like spicy food. I use Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Sauce. The sauce you use will make all the difference with this recipe. - 4/3/11

We love hot wings, but hate the calories. My husband and I loved this recipe. It was like eating hot wings, but not feeling guilty later. - 1/18/10

I used Ashanti's wing sauce, which has a lot less calories and sodium than other brands. It was delish! We made wraps with La Tortilla Factory tortillas, 1 tbsp Marie's Light Blue Cheese dressing, and spinach. Yum! - 10/3/09

Delish!!! There were only 2 brands of buffalo wing sauce at the store; I bought the one with signifantly less sodium. It pays to read labels!!! - 1/28/14

Can anyone give advice on this recipe? There are no liquids, and the little that came out of the chicken evaporated, so it all dried out and burned in less than six hours, even on the low setting. ?? What could I have done wrong? - 10/15/13

I gave this rating instead of higher, only because it was too vinegary for me. That comes strictly from the sauce I used (Franks). Next time we will use a teriyaki sauce if we can find one that isn't too unhealthy. - 7/14/13

Thanks for the recipe. I'm trying right now. I put about 30 oz. of frozen ckn. in with 1 T ranch powder and 1 C hot sauce on top. I'll see how it turns out. I usually put some 1/3 less fat cream cheese in afterwards. Man, my mouth is watering as I type. I'll let you know! - 9/25/12

I didn't care for this at all and threw out all the leftovers after a few days of no one eating off of them. It may have been the low sodium sauce I used so I will try it one more time using a regular sauce. - 12/5/11

i'm going to try this... i'd like to eat it "stuffed" into a baked potato and sprinkle a tablespoon on bleu cheese on top.
and it does sound amazing, but i might cook the chicken and then add the seasonings to taste to save on sodium.. thanks for the great idea

I thought this was good. I didn't shred it after it was done and put it back in the pot like it said. I instead took it out, shredded and then used the remaining liquid just as drizzle. I'll make it again and have leftovers for lunch! - 4/6/10

This is most excellent-really satisfies the craving for those deep-fried restaurant wings, too. I've always used Louisiana Hot Sauce for wings, so I used it in this recipe. Awesome recipe! - 12/13/18

I actually made this with chicken breasts and put it in the freezer, about a month later I cooked it in the crockpot and it was delicious. I actually at it in numerous ways: a baked potato topping, a wrap, a lettuce wrap, a salad topping, and with crackers versus bread. - 8/3/17

This was AMAZING!! We put it on top of potatoes and added a bit more sauce for a kick. Hubby even used blue cheese dressing to top it off! He loved it so much that he asked for it to be put in our monthly rotation! - 2/24/15

This recipe is SO easy and SO delicious! I made it exactly as listed, using Frank's Buffalo Sauce, and I was worried that because there was so little liquid it would come out dry, but the meat was perfectly moist and infused with flavor. Next we're going to try it in homemade mac & cheese! - 2/15/14

First things first: Delish! Second: I used a local sauce called Syberg's. Lower in sodium than Frank's, et. al. I might look for something hotter next time though. I used 3 lbs of chicken, and had 60oz of cooked chicken. Enough for 15 4oz services at 150cal, and 621mg of sodium per serving. Not bad! - 6/23/12

I have this (without butter) in the crockpot today. For those worried about the sodium -- yes, it is high. BUT, you are not really eating ALL of the sauce (source of the sodium) -- most stays in crockpot. Search for a sauce with low sodium or do as others suggested and use less. - 9/14/11

Our family loves this. I use 1/2 a 12 oz. jar of Franks to reduce sodium. Still comes out great and not too spicy -- then if someone wants more spice - they can add more sauce themselves. I make it using crock-pot liners so clean up is a breeze as well! - 2/24/10

trying this tonight. i tasted the sauce before pouring it in & i think the sauce might be a little much for my little girls but our guy friends will love it!

*update* nobody liked it but since i couldn't stand wasting it, i froze it & later turned it into shredded BBQ sandwiches.

This was really good! I used Frank's Buffalo Sauce, which wasn't terribly spicy (but I do like spicy things). I used thawed chicken, so it only took about 3.5 hours. I shredded it, let it cool slightly, and then used it on a salad with LF ranch dressing. It was great! Thank you for the recipe! - 12/10/09

When you say a bottle of wing sauce divided, does this mean to only use half? Usually recipes that call for something divided ask you to use the other half in another way somewhere in the recipe, but I don't see that here? - 11/30/09

Really good and I'll make again. My only problem was that it turned out really liquidy. I served it over rice, but there was no way to put it in a sandwich. Maybe it was me? - 11/22/09

Since we don't like chicken wings, I guess I shouldn't have expected this to be and different, even though it is healthier using the less fatty chicken parts. - 10/25/09

My husband and i really enjoyed this. I was hoping to find an alternative to the buffalo sandwich at Chillis and this was pretty close. The sauce I bought was a little too spicy for me but my hubby LOVED it. We will make again with a milder sauce for sure. - 10/5/09

I cut this recipe in half and used ranch dip instead of the dressing mix, because I had it on hand. Also got a bottle of Franks redhot Wing Sauce in Sweet heat, but would throw in more regular for spice. (it was a good mild flavor and smelled wonderful cooking!) - 8/24/09

I am wondering whether anyone had an alternative to the buffalo sauce? It ends up giving you TWICE the daily recommended amount of sodium, in just one serving!! I'd love to know, since my hubby loves buffalo anything... - 8/22/09
