Ingredients

    unsalted butter 4tbs
    sweet onions 6 cups
    white wine 3tbs
    flour 3tbs
    panko crumbs 1cup
    half and half cream 1.25 cups
    chives 2tbs
    nutmeg 1/8th tsp.
    cayenne 1/8 tsp

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt 4 tabs of butter into a stoveproof gratin dish over medium-high heat; add 6cups of sweet onions, cut into wedges. and cook 5 minutes. Add nutmeg, cayenne, black pepper, then add 3 tbs white wine and simmer 2 minutes. Whisk 1.25cups of half and half cream and 3 tbs of flour, stir into the onionsand bring to a boil. Mix 1 cup of panko crumbs 2 tbls chives, pepper. sprinkle over the onions, cover with parchment paper and bake 30 minutes. Uncover and broil until golden, 5 more minutes.
