Introduction
This is my brother's favorite recipe. My boyfriend has added the onions, green peppers, and banana peppers. The beauty of this recipe is that you can pretty much substitute whatever meat/cheese combination you want. We like lots of meat so you could cut the amount in half if you want a smaller roll. Ingredients
-
2 tsp. olive oil
1 small garlic clove
2 loaves frozen bread dough
3 oz. cheddar cheese, shredded
1 lb. cooked turkey
3 oz. mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 medium onion
1 green pepper
1/4 cup banana peppers
Directions
In a small saucepan heat oil over medium heat; add garlic, onions, and green peppers. Saute until the onions are cooked through. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. On work surface, press bread dough into a 17"x10" rectangle; using a pastry brush, brush dough with the oil from the onion/green pepper/garlic mixture. Arrange cheddar cheese over dough; top with turkey, then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Spread the onion mixture over the top. Firmly press ingredients into the dough. Roll dough up in a jelly roll fashion to enclose filling; pinch the ends to seal and tuck underneath the loaf. Transfer loaf seam side down to a nonstick baking sheet. Using a pastry brush, brush some of the leftover oil from the onion mixture onto the top of the loaf. Bake 30-35 minutes until the bread is golden brown. Cut into 8 slices to serve.
