Ingredients

1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups quick-cooking oats (or old fashioned)
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Directions
Makes approximately 43 cookies.
1.Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
2.In a large bowl, cream together the applesauce, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture until just blended. Mix in the quick oats and chocolate chips. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets. Use 1/8 cup to measure spoonfuls.
3.Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

I used the addition of 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg as another reviewer suggested. I also added an additional 1 C flour since the batter seemed a bit too runny. They are a bit cake like when cooked but for no butter this is a common change to the texture. Lastly, they freeze up great! - 3/9/13
