Introduction
Cuban bread with whole wheat added Cuban bread with whole wheat addedNumber of Servings: 12
Ingredients
-
1 Cup Water, plus
3 TBS water (making it between 1 and 1-1/4 cup of water totals)
3 TBS shortening
1 Cup Bread Flour
2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
2 tsp brown sugar
1-1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp bread machine yeast
Cornmeal for sprinkling on baking sheet
1 egg mixed with 1 TBS water, for egg glaze only
3/4 cup of hot water
Directions
1. Place ingredients in order of your bread machine's manufacturer's suggested order. (Mine is a sunbeam bread machine).
2. Set Bread Machine to dough/pasta (Mine mixes for 1-1/2 hours)
3. When cycle is complete, remove from bread machine onto a lightly floured surface.
4. Shape into a long loaf; taper ends by gently rolling back and forth.
5. Place on baking sheet that has been sprinkled with cornmeal. ( I used parchment paper on baking, then sprinkle with cornmeal - easier cleanup)
6. Let rise uncovered for 10 minutes
7. Using sharp knife, make 3 or 4 diagonal slashes on top of loaf.
8. Brush with egg glaze.
9. Place on middle shelf of a cold oven.
10. Place a shallow pan on bottom shelf with the 3/4 cup of hot water.
11. Set oven temperature to 400 degrees and make for 30 minutes, or until done (my oven runs hot sometimes and I check it at 20 minutes.)
12 Remova from pan and let cool on wire rack.
13. Slice when cool
Note: Prep time includes Bread Machine time, ingredients prep and resting.
Number of Servings: 12
