Ingredients

    Green lentils, 1 cup, uncooked
    Short-grain brown rice, 1 cup, uncooked
    Water, 4 cups
    Ginger, 1 inch piece, peeled
    Garlic, 2 cloves, peeled and smashed slightly with knife
    Salt, 2 tsp
    Ground coriander seed, 1 tbsp
    Cardamom pods, 5 whole pods
    Cinnamon stick, 1/2 a stick
    Olive Oil, 1 1tsp
    Carrots, raw, 1 cup, grated
    Rolled oats, 11/2 cups
    Onion, 1 small
    Cilantro, fresh, 2 tbsp
    Soy Sauce, 2 tsp
    Lemon Juice, 1 tbsp


Directions

In a large pot combine lentils, rice, water, ginger, garlic, salt, coriander, garam masala, cardamom pods, cinnamon stick and olive oil. Bring to a boil over high heat, cover, reduce heat to low and simmer 50 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes, then allow to cool. Fish out cardamom pods and cinnamon stick.

In a food processor combine onion, oats, soy sauce, lemon juice and cilantro. Process to make a chunky paste, add lentil/rice mixture including garlic and ginger, and blend until a smooth paste consistency.

In a bowl combine contents of food processor with grated carrot and chill for 15 - 30 minutes,

Form patties on a greased cookie sheet and cook at 350F for 30 minutes, flipping patties once halfway through cooking.
