Introduction

Wonderful fall and winter dish. Wonderful fall and winter dish.
Number of Servings: 7

Ingredients

    One 4 oz. package Farmhouse® Long Grain & Wild Rice Traditional Herbs & Seasonings
    1/2 cup butter or margarine
    1 large onion, diced
    1/2 lb. mushrooms, sliced
    1/2 cup flour
    6 cups chicken broth
    Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

1.Prepare rice according to package directions. Set aside.
2.In large sauce pan, melt butter or margarine. Add onions and mushrooms and cook until soft.
3.Sprinkle flour over onion mixture and cook 2 minutes, stirring frequently.
4.Add chicken broth and stir frequently until thickened.
5.Remove from heat and cool slightly.
6.Puree in batches in blender or food processor. Return to sauce pan and add rice. Heat slowly. Season with salt and pepper.


Serving Size: Makes six to eight 1 & 1/4 cup servings

    This is rich and delicious! I added 2 cups of beef broth and only 4 cups of chicken broth, also 1 tsp of thyme and 3 cloves of garlic. - 10/7/13
