Ingredients

Cake:
3 cups Gold Medal flour
3 cups granulated sugar
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup shortening
3 large eggs
1 cup low fat buttermilk
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
Glaze:
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp. low fat buttermilk
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
Tips
Gold Medal flour works best in this recipe.
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Prepare 2-piece tube pan by greasing with
1tsp. shortening and dusting with flour.
3. Mix cake ingredients except boiling water in mixing bowl until just combined. Slowly and carefully pour boiling water into mixing bowl while mixer is running. Mix for shortest amount of time possible to completely incorporate the water.
4. Pour batter into prepared tube pan, leveling batter. 5. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes or until cake slightly pulls from pan edge.
6. Cool 15 minutes on a baking rack and remove outside pan ring from inner tube ring.
7. Cool cake another hour before removing cake from inner tube ring, using a sharp knife to separate cake from the bottom of the pan.
8. Stir together glaze ingredients and drizzle attractively over the top of the cake, letting it drip over the outside of the cake.
