Ingredients
-
1 pound ground beef, 85% lean
Onions, raw, 1 large, chopped
2 medium potatoes, chopped
Garlic, cloves, minced/smashed
Peas, frozen, 10 oz.
2 lg. tomatoes, diced, or 1 can diced tomatoes
2 slices Ginger Root, minced/smashed
4 Tbsp. Oil (adjust according to your cookware)
1/4 tsp. cumin seeds
1 tsp. coriander
Salt, 1 tsp
6 black peppercorns
6 whole cloves or 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1 cardamom pod or 1/4 tsp. ground cardamom
1/4 tsp. cayenne
1/4 tsp. turmeric (can subsitute curry powder)
Tips
The potatoes take longer to cook so I suggest pre-boiling them to about half-cooked while frying the onions and beef.
To reduce carbs, substitute cauliflower for the potatoes (Gobi Matar Keema).
Directions
In a large pan with oil, cook onions until soft, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and ginger and cook 1 more minute. Add ground beef and spices and cook, breaking it up into small bits as you go. Drain if wet and add tomatoes, potatoes and peas. Cover and simmer on medium low for 10-15 minutes or until the peas are hot.
