Introduction
The amounts in this recipe are very forgiving. You can omit the spices, or change them. For example, if you don't have coriander, you can use nutmeg. You can use the dried fruits that you like best - many sugarplum recipes use raisins - we prefer craisins.
Allergic to nuts?
You can leave out the nuts totally, and only add as much honey as you need to help everything "stick" into balls. (You may not need any hoeny at all if omitting the nuts.
We roll these in coarse sugar prior to serving - but the sugar is not included in the calorie count. The amounts in this recipe are very forgiving. You can omit the spices, or change them. For example, if you don't have coriander, you can use nutmeg.

Number of Servings: 40
Ingredients
-
1.5 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground allspice
1 tsp ground coriander
2 T orange zest
1.5 cups dried apricots, chopped
1.5 cups Chopped figs
1.5 cups craisins or raisins
1.5 cups chopped dates
2 cups walnuts
1 cup cashew nuts
6 T honey
Directions
Zest 1-2 oranges.
In a small bowl, combine zest with ground spices - set asaide.
Combine all fruits in the bowl of your food processor.
Process until almost finely chopped.
Remove from food processor into large bowl.
Place nuts, orange zest, asn spices into food processor bowl. Pule until finely chopped - but don't take the cover off right away, as all the spices will rise in a glorious-smalling cloud.
Aftetr the nuts and spices have rested a few minutes, pour them into the bowl with the fruit. Stir with a large sppon until pretty well combined. Then drizzle the honey over, 1 Tablespoon at a time, stirring the whole while (it really helps if you have another set of hands help with this step.)
When everything is thouroughly combined, wash and dry your hands well, then start scooping out small portions and rolling them into balls. Each ball should fit easily in a mini-muffin cup liner (should you choose to use these to serve them.)
If desired, roll each bal in powdered or coarse sugar. If you use powdered sugar, be aware that the balls will "soak up" the sugar and need another light dusting before serving.
These taste great the same day, but even better the next day, when the spices have had time to permeate and the flavors have had a chance to blend a bit.
Enjoy!
