Ingredients

Besan or chickpea flour - 1 cup
    Rice flour (white/brown rice) - 2 tbsp
Onion (finely chopped) - 0.2 cup
Tomato (finely chopped) - 0.2 cup
    Hot pepper - 1 tsp
    Garlic paste - 1 tsp
    Ginger paste - 1 tsp
Coriander seed powder - 2 tsp
Cumin seed powder - 2 tsp
    Turmeric powder - 0.5 tsp
    salt - to taste

Tips

I do not use oil in this recipe but traditionally oil is used so that chilla does not stick to the girdle. Cooking spray can also be used. Almost all ingredients in this recipe can be adjusted to taste. Rice flour makes chilla's crispy but you can omit rice flour if you don't have it.

Directions

Mix all ingredients. Add water to make a batter with consistency thinner than that of pancake batter. Spread half cup of batter on a non-stick girdle and cook till brown (almost 1-2 minutes). Flip and cook the other side. Serve with ketchup or chutney, and Tea/ Coffee.
