Chinese-inspired version of oxtail - Crockpot Chinese-inspired version of oxtail - Crockpot
Number of Servings: 3


    2.5 lbs oxtail, cut into pieces
    kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
    1/2 cup dry sherry
    1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
    1 1/2 Tbsp dark brown sugar
    1 star anise, broken apart
    1/2 cup chopped onion
    1 Tbsp ginger paste
    2 Tbsp garlic paste
    1 lemon, peel and juice


Place oxtail in crockpot and season with salt and pepper on both sides. Pour in all ingredients except lemon. Peel lemon and put peel in sauce. Squeeze lemon juice on oxtail. Set crock pot to high and turn oxtail occastionally for 4 hours. Turn crockpot to low and cook for another 4 hours.

  • I made it last night and like very much. I will make it again. I think the portions for both entries are too large but can't find oxtail in the nutrient listings I use in order to recalculate the nutrients. I had a slightly smaller amount of oxtail and I added baby carrots so must estimate. - 3/11/09
