Ingredients

1 cup nonfat instant dry milk
    4 cups all-purpose unbleached flour
1 tbsp double acting baking powder
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 tsp salt
    3/4 cup vegetable shortening
1.5-2 cups very cold tap water

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 with rack on top setting. Combine dry ingredients. If you have a sifter, sift them together. If not, use a fork to combine them all. Cut in the vegetable shortening, and using hands, mix it into the dry ingredients. Slowly add water 1/2 cup at a time, until it forms a stiff dough. On a flat surface, on a piece of saran wrap, press dough down with hands. Cut out with a floured biscuit cutter, and place biscuits on lightly greased foiled baking sheets, about 1" apart. Repeat until all the dough is used. Form any superfluous dough into a biscuit. Bake each sheet for 10-13 minutes, until biscuits are light golden. Makes about 30 biscuits.
