Introduction
I'm not the cook here - my sweet John changes his recipes to help me decrease my caloric intake, cutting fat & such along the way. Here's his healthier take on cabbage & kielbasa. Ingredients
1 pack Eckrich Skinless Turkey Smoked Sausage
1 med. head Green Cabbage, chopped
2 1/2 C. Swanson Natural Goodness Chicken Broth
3 Tbsp. Dried Onion Flakes
3 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 tsp.Celery seed
1 tsp. celery salt
1 Tbsp. Dill weed, dried
2-3 tbsp. Garlic powder
Tips
May add apples, or substitute fresh thin-sliced onions. A common topping is apple cider vinegar for a fresh zingy taste.
Directions
Pour the olive oil In a large stockpot. Slice sausage thin and add to pot. Add 1/2 the garlic powder, stir well, saute for 10 minutes. To the pot add the celery salt, celery seed, dried onions, cabbage and chicken broth.
Bring the ingredients to a boil, then lower the temperature to medium low. Simmer, stirring frequently, for 40 minutes or until all the cabbage is tender.
Leftovers are great for lunch!
