Ingredients

1-1/4 cups unbleached, all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/4 cup corn starch
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/4 cups sugar
1 cup fat free milk
3 egg whites
1/2 cup applesauce
Frosting
1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon fat free cream cheese, room temperature
3 tablespoons light butter, room temperature
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3-3/4 cups powdered sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Add the flour, cocoa, corn starch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to a medium mixing bowl. Using your hands, mix them until combined, being sure to break any lumps. Set it aside.
In a large mixing bowl, using a sturdy whisk, mix the sugar, milk , stirring continuously for 1 minute. Whisk in the egg whites and the apple sauce until blended. Add the dry ingredients and stir them until just smooth.
Bake 45-55 minutes until a tooth pick in the center comes out clean.
Cool completely and then frost.
