Introduction

Ingredients

2.5 cup (V) Beans, Gr Northern (Gr Value) (1/4 c dry = 1/2 c cooked)
6 cup (8 fl oz) Water, tap
9 tbsp Ketchup, Heinz
2 cup (8 fl oz) Water, tap
.75 cup, packed Brown Sugar
2 tbsp Molasses
1 tsp Salt
1 small Onions, raw
1 tsp ground Mustard seed, yellow
Tips
This can be made a day ahead, and heated the next day.
Directions
1) Wash the beans in a mesh colander, and pick through the beans, checking for stones and bad beans.
2) in a large crock pot, place the beans and 6 cups water. Place the temperature setting to low, and cook overnight or for 8 to 10 hours, until the beans are soft.
3) In the morning, dice the onion. Place the onion in a medium sized bowl, along with the ketchup, water, ground mustard seed, brown sugar, molasses, and salt. Stir and set aside.
4) Carefully drain the cooked beans, and place them back into the crock pot. Add the sauce mixture. and stir.
5) Continue cooking the beans at low, for another 6 hours, until the beans are good and soft. Check the beans a couple times, and add more water if needed.
Serve with toast or biscuits, for a nice lunch.
