Introduction
A simple vegan meal that goes a long way. We like to serve this with Chinese noodles and stir fried or steamed vegetables just to bulk out out a bit. A simple vegan meal that goes a long way. Ingredients
-
1 block Tofu, firm pressed and cut into cubes
.5 cup (8 fl oz) Sweet and Sour Sauce
1 medium (2-1/2" dia) Onions, quartered and cut into thick slices
1 tbsp Rapeseed Oil tblsp for frying tofu
30 grams Corn Starch for dredging. You will need more but won't use it all
Tips
Add a tin of pineapple off you have it. We will do so next time.
Directions
1. Press the tofu for at least 15-20 minutes. I do this by placing it between several sheets of kitchen paper with one plate underneath and one on top then I balance a heavy weight on top of that.
2. Cut the tofu into cubes and dredge with corn starch.
3. Heat the oil in a pan, carefully add the tofu and cook evenly on all sides until lightly browned. Don't be in a hurry to turn out too early or too often. Let it sit and try for a few minutes each side. Once done, remove and let drain on kitchen paper.
4. Put the onions into the pan and.com until the onions are softened. Add a half cup, or one packet, sweet and sour sauce. Add the tofu back and let simmer gently until it is all hot and bubbling.
Divide between 4 plates.
Serving Size: Makes 4 x generous 1/2 cup servings
Number of Servings: 4
