Introduction
Indian lentil dish. You can eat it with rice and optional vegetables, but I also like to eat a double portion of it without anything, or with extra water and some bread served along with it making a soup for lunch. Ingredients
-
220 grams red lentils
1 tbsp ginger, peeled and grated
1 tsp tumeric powder
1 liter water
1.5 tsp salt
1 tbsp sunflower oil
0.5 tsp panch phoron or curry powder
1 dried chilli
4 cloves of garlic, sliced thinly
4 tbsp fresch coriander leaves
Directions
- Wash the lentils and put them in a cooking pot together with the water, ginger and tumeric. Get the water boiling and turn the heat down low. Let it boil without cover for 25 minutes. Stir every now and then to make sure the lentils don't burn and so they will be cooked evenly until they are done. Stir in the salt and keep them warm on a very low heat.
- Heat the oil in a small frying pan on high heat. When the oil is hot lower the heat to medium and add the panch phoron (or curry powder) and dried chilli. Fry them 1 minute untill they start to get darker. Then add the garlic and fry until the garlic is coloured gold-ish.
- Stir the spices and garlic through the lentils and add the coriander.
