Introduction

Ingredients

    ½ cup chopped onion
    ½ cup chopped celery
    ½ cup chopped green pepper
    3 tsp. butter or margarine
    1 bottle Heinz chili sauce (12 oz.)
    1 lb. lean ground beef
    1 cup soft bread crumbs (Progresso)
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    ½ tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper (more or less to taste, recipe calculated with 1/2 tsp.)

Directions

Sauté onion, celery and green pepper in butter until vegetables are tender. Stir in chili sauce. Combine ½ cup of this mixture with ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, salt and pepper. Form into a loaf in shallow baking pan. Bake in 350 degrees oven for 1 hour. Serve remaining sauce, cold or heated, over meat loaf. Let stand 5 minutes before slicing. Makes 6 servings.
