Ingredients

    4 cups pinto beans
    4 slices thick bacon
    1 tsp salt
2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
    1 tsp garlic powder

Directions

Rinse beans, pour into a large pot and cover with water by 2-3". Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cover. Simmer two hours, or until beans are tender. Check beans periodically to make sure you don't need to add more water. The beans should have a thick broth by the time they are done cooking. 10-15 minutes before you are ready to serve, stir in salt, pepper and garlic powder.

Serve with cornbread and a small amount of shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream.
