This recipe has become a tradition at my home every Halloween. Family and friends look forward to bringing their kids for trick-or-treating around the neighborhood followed with a bowl or two of hot chile and cornbread. Family and friends look forward to bringing their kids for trick-or-treating around the neighborhood followed with a bowl or two of hot chile and cornbread.
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    2 pounds of ground beef (80/20)
    2 cans of diced tomatoes
    1 can tomato sauce
    1 can pinto beans
    1 cup water
    3 finely diced garlic cloves
    1 teaspoon powdered cumin (or to taste)
    1/2 teaspoon pepper
    1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    1 teaspoon chile powder (or to taste)

Directions

Brown ground beef in a large 6-8 qt. pot. Add all spices and stir. Add all canned items and water. Stir well. Bring to a boil. Cover pot and simmer for 3 hours. The longer you simmer, the tastier this dish is. Serve with shredded cheese and diced onions.
Makes around 6-8 two cup servings. This recipe may be doubled or tripled for a large crowd.
Don't forget the cornbread!
