Ingredients
-
3/4-cup egg substitute
3/4-cup fat-free half & half
1/4-cup non-fat milk
2 tbsp. honey
1.5 tsp almond extract
8 slices of Challah bread, sliced 1/2-inch thick
Directions
--The night before...
Combine the egg substitute, half & half, and milk in a small bowl. With a whisk, mix in the honey and almond extract. (To make the honey easier to combine, microwave it for 20 seconds). Cover bowl with a plate and put custard in the refrigerator.
For the bread: slice the challah into 1/2-inch thick slices and leave on the counter over-night. (once the bread is a little stale, it will absorb the custard better)
--The next morning...
Preheat oven to 375-degrees.
Heat a sautee pan or griddle over medium heat. Dump custard into a pie plate or shallow bowl and place two slices of the challah into the mixture. Soak for 30 seconds and flip; soak for another 30 seconds. Place on a rack to drain off extra custard. Repeat with remaining slices
Grease pan with 1/4-tbsp of butter and add two slices of bread. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown, then flip; cook another 3-5 minutes and remove to baking sheet. Repeat with remaining 6 slices.
Place French Toast in preheated oven for 5=10 minutes or until the custard is completely set.
Top with powdered sugar and maple syrup.
