Introduction
I love green bean casserole, but the original kind is full of fat and calories. You can use french onion soup in place of the soup mix packet if you like. This is a great substitue and works well for holidays and every day dinner. I love green bean casserole, but the original kind is full of fat and calories. Ingredients

4 cups green beans(french style work well)
1 can 98% fat free cream of mushroom soup
1 large chopped onion
1 c. sliced mushrooms
2 T. french's fried onions
1/2 c. skim milk
1/2 packet of onion soup or dip mix
1 tsp. each of black and red pepper(opt.)
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a cast iron skillet for a one-dish recipe. Start by sauteeing the chopped onions and mushrooms in a pan coated w/ non stick spray. Cook till desired doneness.(Transfer to baking pan if not using an ovenproof skillet)
Mix onion soup powder with the milk and pepper in a small bowl. Add green beans, mushroom soup, and milk mixture to pan, and stir until well coated. Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Remove aluminum foil and top with the french fried onions. Bake for 5-10 minutes more, uncovered, or until onion topping is golden brown.
Nutritional value is for 4 large servings, but could probably make 6-8 smaller servings.
