Ingredients
-
2 Cups of Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 package of Active Dry Yeast
1/4 Cup of Uncooked Oatmeal
1 Cup of Warm Water -- not too hot
3 tbsp Unsalted Butter, softened
1/4 Cup Raw Honey
1 large fresh egg
1/2 tsp fine ground sea salt.
Directions
Preheat oven to 200F, then turn it off.
Mix all of the ingredients in a large bowl --you WILL get your hands dirty! I recommend adding the warm water last. Made sure the water temp does not exceed 120F, or you will kill your yeast.
Once the ingredients are thoroughly combined into a sticky dough mixture, pound out the dough on a clean, well-floured, flat surface. Knead for approximately 10 minutes, until the dough is no longer sticking to your fingers. (Feel free to add this to your daily fitness minutes tracker!)
Once the dough is smooth and well-kneaded, roll it into a log shape and place it into a greased bread pan. Punch the dough down flat (it should be filling your bread pan about halfway.) Sprinkle with more oatmeal if desired.
Place the bread into your warmed oven for about 45 mins-1 hour, or until the bread has risen to double its original size.
Once the bread has risen, remove carefully from oven and preheat to 375F. Once the oven is ready, bake for 35 minutes or until the bread makes a hollow sound when you tap it.
Congratulations! You made bread. If you like a softer crust, glaze the loaf with melted butter. Remove from pan immediately, but don't cover until cool.
Makes 1 Yummy Loaf. 1 Loaf = about 16 half inch slices. 1 serving = 1 slice.
