Introduction
This is an amped up version of a chickpea veggie burger I found online. I added the red pepper, garlic, and cheese. I eat all my veggie burgers on the Orowheat Sandwich Thins, they are only 100 calories, whole wheat, no trans fat, no HFCS, and they taste great. Ingredients
-
2 15 oz can no sodium added chickpeas
2 small stalks of celery finely diced
1 small onion finely diced
1 tbsp dried parsley
1 tsp of sesame seeds
1 tsp minced garlic
1.5 tsp sage
1 egg
1 tbsp red chili pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese ( you could use 2% to cut down on calories even more)
1 1/4 cup italian style breadcrumbs
6 Orowheat Whole Wheat Sandwich Thins
Cooking Spray
Whatever topping you like on your burgers. Those calories are not figured in.
Directions
Drain the chickpeas in a colander, then rinse them. I allow all the moisture to drain then blot them with a paper towel, so they don't make the burgers soggy. Mash them completely, they should look like refried beans.
In a large mixing bowl combine, all your ingredients.
Mix thoroughly
Heat skillet coated with cooking spray.
Form mixture into 6 similiarly sized balls, flatten balls and place in hot skillet.
Brown completely on each side ( about 10 mins) then remove from skillet and fix up like a burger.
Makes 6 burgers.
