Introduction

This is a traditional dish in my husband's family, handed down from his Swedish ancestors. I don't care for it, but it makes him happy when I cook it for him.

I've never made this in a crockpot, but I bet it would work well. His great-grandma cooked it over the oven vent on her wood stove, and his grandma made it in an electric skillet.

Ingredients

    1 large head cabbage
    2 eggs, beaten
    3 Tbsp. sugar
    2 Tbsp. unsalted butter
    1 tsp. dried mustard powder
    1 cup vinegar
    dash black pepper

Directions

Chop cabbage fine or shred in a food processor. Put it in a large saucepan or a stew pot over very low heat, or near the oven vent if the oven is on, for about half an hour, until cabbage is heated through.

Mix remaining ingredients in a saucepan and heat to a soft custard consistency. Pour over the cabbage and mix well. If it is not thick enough, continue to cook the cabbage and dressing together until thickened.

Makes eight servings.
