Ingredients

    1 lb Beef, top sirloin cut into 1/2" pieces
    2 cups white onion chopped
    2 cups carrots chopped
    2 cups red potatoes cut into 1/2" pieces
    3 tsp fresh garlic chopped
    2 Bay leaves
    2 tsp Salt
    2 tsp Pepper
    2 tsp Allspice
    2 tsp Nutmeg
    1/2 cup flour
    2 tbsp red wine

Directions


1. Brown meat at a medium-high heat, in a lightly greased skillet, and set meat to the side.
2. Turn heat to high and deglaze the skillet with red wine. Immediatly add onions, garlic, Allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Cover and heat mixture for 10 minutes or until onions are tender and almost translucent.
3. Uncover and add flour to mixture, stirring until raw flour taste has dissapeared. Remove from heat.
4. In a large soup pot, add meat and onion mixture. Add room temperature water to cover (about 5 cups).
5. Cook for one hour on medium heat. Then add carrots, potatos, and green beans. Cook for an additional one and a half hours ( or until vegetables are tender )on medium heat.
6. In a seperate bowl, add equal parts water (1 cup) to equal parts corn starch (1 cup). Slowly stir mixture into stew and cook for about two minutes. Makes 5 1-cup servings.
7. Season to taste.
