I think the owner has a typo here, I also made it and it was gooey so I continued 10 minutes more at a time until 50 minutes went by and still gooey. So then I made it in a 9x12 pan and baked for 50 minutes and could also cut into 24 pieces as recipe states, which you cannot do in an 8x8pan, good - 12/21/09

these turned out great! I don't know if it was just me, but mine took at least twice the time to bake, and some were still a little gooey on top. And a better name might be "cake" - not "squares." great flavor though! - 10/8/07

Great recipe for fall! I used whole wheat flour, using an extra 1/2 cup, and I used nutmeg instead of ground cloves. Baked it in a 9x13 pan for 40 min. A little wet to cut, but otherwise fine. My family loves them! - 10/13/12

This snack is very good! Guilt free eating at it's finest. They came out moist. I went half wheat flour and half white flour instead of all white flour. I'm thinking about trying nuts and raisins in it next time. - 12/6/09

Can you please check your recipe? I've just removed it from the oven. I baked it more than 40 minutes, but it remained like raw inside. - 10/10/09

I read the other reviews and baked it longer.
    However, it was still gooey.
I loved the taste but would try a different size pan maybe.
