Ingredients

    1/2 cup nuts
    1/2 cup hot water
    2 cup soft pitted dates
    1/2 cup sugar
    dash salt
    2 tbsp lemon juice
    1-3/4 cup quick cooking oatmeal
    3/4 cup soft butter
    1-1/2 cup flour (you can other kinds of flour)
    1 cup brown sugar (not packed)
    1 tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp salt

Directions

Heat oven to 375F. Lightly grease a 13 x 9" pan. Chop nuts adding water, dates, sugar a dash of salt and lemon juice into blender covering and processing at Liquefy until dates are finely chopped. Set aside.

In another large bowl combine remaining ingredients mixing at medium until crumbly. Press half of this mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Spread date filling evenly over it. Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture over top and press down lightly. Bake for 40 mins. Cut into squares while slightly warm.

Yiel 2 - 3 dozen date squares

    Made these without adding the sugar into the date mixture as dates are sweet enough on their own and cut the sugar in half in the bottom mixture. I will be taking them to our home group tonight - 12/8/10

    Disturbed that the ingredient list that is saved in this recipe doesn't match the ingredients listed. I made this with almonds and white whole wheat flour. Cook time was a little too long, 30-35 minutes would've been better. Even with that aside, found the end result to not be sweet enough. - 1/5/12
