Ingredients

    .5 tsp oil
    3 sliced onions
    3-4 tsp cumin
    garlic to taste
    1 cup dry lentils
    1 cup dry rice
    salt to taste

Directions

Makes 6 servings

Sauté in 1 oil, sliced onions and 2tsp cumin, and garlic if using.

Take out and reserve 1/3 onions after browned. Continue cooking the rest until VERY browned

At the same time, cook lentils in 3.5 cups water, covered for about 15 minutes--depends on your lentils...

When done, add the leftover onions you browned, 1 tsp salt, 1.5 or so tsp cumin and 1 cup rice, cover and cook 15 more minutes.

Stir in onions, cover and let sit for 15 minutes.

Use as side dish or eat with tomato and cucumber slices and yogurt as a main dish.

    Incredible!
SO GOOD!!!! I've made it twice in the past week.... The second time around I started the lentils in 4 cups of water instead of 3.5, made the rice a bit more tender at the end... - 8/18/09
